To those not familiar with a tradition in Hawaii that celebrates our neighboring country of Japan, let me introduce you to it through this painting, part of my gecko series. “Musubi” is a sushi that incorporates the wonders of “Spam”, a Hawaiian and American food “delicacy”, into a mini meal of exotic delight. This is a perfect prop to inspire the antics of a couple of playful Hawaiian geckos that have wandered atop a local sushi bar counter.
This little guy will do anything to impress. He is really “on a roll” and so is she! Flaunting his acrobatic finesse, we see him man-oeuvre his way across the counter using a couple of fine looking chopsticks. It’s just like a tabletop circus act. Meanwhile, this sweet little female admirer sits all cozy on her warm little “musubi” seat. Shy, but amused, she has this guy ready to do whatever it takes to keep her attention!
